The Jugged Hare

The Jugged Hare, on the corner of Chiswell Street and Silk Street in the City, was part of the old Whitbread brewery (c.1748) and formerly The King’s Head pub.The Jugged Hare takes its name from a famous 18th century recipe created by Hannah Glasse, the UK’s first and foremost domestic goddess. With a focus on seasonal British dishes prepared using traditional cooking methods and independent boutique wines, The Jugged Hare boasts a handsome pub, a spacious dining room complete with an open theatre-style kitchen and a stunning vaulted private room.

The dining room, once the barreling room of the brewery, features exposed ceramic tiles on the vaulted ceilings and walls and oak timber floorboards throughout. A ‘walk-in’ wine room enables guests to handpick their favourite bottle of red whilst a window through to the kitchen’s ‘cold room’, showcases the ageing process of the meat and hanging game.

Vibrant red leather banquette seating and comfortable stools at ‘the pass’ allow diners to watch head chef Richard O’Connell and his brigade in action as they prepare food on a state-of-the art eight-spit rotisserie and a charcoal grill. In the pub itself, the main focal point is the back bar display of antique and exclusively British cased taxidermy. Other pub features include original brass ironmongery restored from the brewery, anaglypta wallpapered high ceilings and antique whisky barrel high tables.

Chiswell Street Dining Rooms

Located on the corner of Milton Street (formerly known as Grub Street1) and Chiswell Street, in the original home of the Whitbread brewery (c.1748), the bar and restaurant now evokes an atmosphere of abundant good times.

Providing the best of new and old-fashioned British cooking, courtesy of head chef Richard O’Connell, who previously worked at The Groucho Club and One Aldwych. Chiswell Street Dining Rooms is open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

Reminiscent of a modern day drawing room, the wooden panelled dining room is smart and handsome. Divided into three areas, literary inspired art and typography adorns the walls combining with stylish leather tub chairs, luxurious banquettes and a colour palate of creams, greens and golds to exude vintage class.

Lunch revisits seventies gourmet gold and dinner spans a mix of recent decades and showcases a similar bold cooking style.

Sophistication reigns with a stylish leather clad bar, topped by a stunning single piece of chestnut, set off by a vintage distressed mirror, making it the ideal place to meet, drink and dissect the day.
